Captiva Island
Travel experts say Captiva's sunsets are the most romantic in the world. Sanibel Island's little sister island – they are joined by Blind Pass Bridge - Captiva is a smaller and more intimate place to spend a vacation. There are fewer hotels and stores – but plenty of restaurants, including the famous Bubble Room, which no one leaves hungry and which is noted for its funky, eclectic decor, and the Mucky Duck, which models itself after an English pub and has fabulous sunset views.
Also on Captiva -- at the very tip -- is South Seas Island Resort, an exclusive destination with its own marina, restaurants, golf course and swimming pools.
Captiva was the longtime home of the late Robert Rauschenberg, who was considered the greatest living contemporary artist. Rauschenberg died in 2008.
Captiva is also a great launching point for bay cruises and is a popular wedding destination. Couples flock there to be married on its stunning white sand beaches.
