Avoiding the Trees
Being an avid golfer in the past and not so much now, makes me become conscious of how much it takes to keep up your golf swing. It literally takes hours upon hours to realize your swing to make it matter in a game.
Recently, I played a private club and was not please with the outcome. It had been about 1 year and a half since I last played. I thought I would be able to hold my own having been born in Arizona and playing all my life. However, the opposite happened. I had the worst slice of my life, only getting worse as the day progressed. I didn’t know what to do on the course, I was losing so badly. Then I remembered what an old golf pro told back in Arizona.
Here is what I did. Since I wasn’t getting better in this game and that was for sure. I sort of forfeited the game. At the 10th hole I started focusing on my swing.
What was the cause of a my slice? In general, slice is a swing with an open face. This means you swung at the ball impact of the golf ball. Potential causes for this are three fold. One of the causes is a weak swing. When you clutch the grip of your club you should have a firm grip on it. You will more likely be able turn your wrist like that. The second of the Potential causes is looking away from the ball as you swing. This can cause you to stand up slightly on your swing. Don’t worry how far the ball is going to go you can figure that out when you find it.
The last reasonable cause for a slice is leaving your elbows and arms to far out from your body. Keep them close to your body and try that with a half swing working up to a follow through swing. Those steps should put your ball on the straight and narrow.
The thing to remember is a golf pros just don’t happen, there made with a lot of hard work. So get to the range, keep your elbows in, don’t look away from the ball and definitely do not open up your club. Have fun!
