Fort Myers Beach Government Information
Fort Myers Beach Development
For a long time now Fort Myers Beach has talked about redevelopment on parks and miss used Government buildings. For five years they put off this development until 2004.
In 2004, one of the costliest hurricanes ($14.6 billion)to hit Fort Myers Beach slammed into the Gulf of Mexico and the plans could no longer be ignored. The old buildings that were already decayed by age and weather succumbed to Charley. However, a lot of buildings were just in need of repair.
So far, only about 10% of the repairs and remodeling needed have been done. If you consider that 95% of the buildings in Fort Myers Beach were damaged, it gives a better understanding of the picture. To learn more about this comprehensive plan follow this link
The Matanzas Pass project for a new sewer and potable waterline is expected to finish soon. The project which began on July 6, 2009 was only to be 120 day project but has taken longer than expected. For more info on what the project will do see this video.
